New York, NY, November 30, 2011 – I’m From Driftwood (, a non-profit organization that collects and shares LGBTQ stories from all walks of life to help deepen our understanding of each other , has teamed up with renowned fashion designer, Cesar Galindo, to spotlight his capsule collection Rojo, designed in commemoration of the 23rd anniversary of World AIDS Day. Galindo, founder of CZAR by Cesar Galindo, is known for his sumptuous designs, attention to detail, and of course his appearance on Bravo’s The Fashion Show and his work for Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. collection. But this time, he takes inspiration for his designs not from pop music, supermodels, and wild tours, but from his own life and experiences.

Galindo says “I was thrilled when I’m From Driftwood contacted me to share my story about the impact AIDS has had upon my life and our community and the world. I am so proud of the dresses I created, each one a unique piece, but at the end of the day it is truly about the cause and reminding everyone that the fight is not over.”

Nathan Manske, founder of I’m From Driftwood, agreed and said, “At I’m From Driftwood, we’ve shared stories through writing, audio and even theater. When we heard that Cesar had told a story by designing dresses, we knew we had to capture his story on film and share it with others. He’s literally wrapping women with memories of his loved ones to make sure they’re never forgotten. He’s truly an inspiring man and designer.”

Raised in Houston, Texas, Galindo had lost over 100 friends to AIDS by the time he was 18. He later lost the first love of his life, who had picked up and moved to NYC with him to help him pursue his dream of design, to AIDS as well. The video gives us rare access to the mind and life of the designer, as he not only shows off three of the gowns which will be auctioned off, but shares his story and philosophies on life born out of all of this loss. It is a powerful and sobering tale behind the glamour.

The Rojo collection, each piece a unique and gorgeous couture creation, honors and raises awareness of all of the people felled by this disease. Returning to his roots, he designed Rojo with the Texas woman in mind. The Rojo collection was auctioned off at the World AIDS Day Luncheon, which Galindo co-chaired in Houston on December 1st.
