Ramon Vargas Jr.

Written by Sabrina Love

One usually expects pop, rock or hip-hop when presented with young Latino music talent. However, when it comes to 20-year-old Dallas resident Ramon Vargas Jr., Regional Mexican music has been the music style of choice for this young Latino since the age of 13. Although Vargas enjoys singing a variety of well-known hits, he is passionate about this part of his culture and has chosen this genre to pursue his dream of a professional singing career.

With support from his family, Vargas also knew that in order to be taken seriously he had to stay determined and focused, which involved sacrificing many hours of hanging out with friends. Showing off his vocals, Vargas showcased his solo act at school functions, family gatherings, and small community events. Winning first place in the contest “Juguemos A Cantar” (Let’s Sing) propelled this teen to larger community showcases. Over the past six years this young talent has performed at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo’s “Best of Mexico”, the Mexican Consulate’s 16 de Septiembre “El Grito” event, Fiestas Patrias at Fair Park, and has been an opening act for Colombian singer Charlie Zaa, among many other performances. Vargas also has two albums under his belt: “Lluvia de Plata” and “El Aventurero.”

As Vargas continues his journey to stardom, he works to keep a promise made to his parents to be a role model to the Latino community youth by completing his education. Vargas is a recent graduate of South Grand Prairie High School and is presently attending Mountain View College. With the dream of making it into the mainstream, this young talent works non-stop and awaits the record deal of a lifetime.

Vargas expresses that having a unique style can make it difficult to please everyone, but he is undeterred by the few cases of negative feedback during his career. The criticism has only made Vargas a stronger person and has motivated him to continue doing what he loves to do – only better.

Ramon Vargas Jr. advises all MLM readers that “with faith everything is possible.”  He invites all MLM readers to follow his musical quest while preserving Mexican heritage by connecting with him at
